"Unprecedented": Minister Kisch flew for a vacation - and was absent from conferences ahead of September 1st

About two weeks before the start of the school year, the education system is still dealing with a major shortage of teachers and assistants. During this critical time, Minister of Education Yoav Kisch flew for a vacation in Cyprus and was absent from important preparatory conferences ahead of the start of the year.

Due to the Likud primaries, Kisch missed an especially important conference of the Haredi district, and due to the flight, he was absent from another conference. In total, the minister missed four conferences this week. Sources in his office told Channel 13 News this evening (Friday):

"An education minister who flies two weeks before the start of the year at the expense of preparatory conferences - is unprecedented."

Meanwhile, a study by the "State Education Watch" using the "Midgam Institute" checked what grade is given to the minister at the end of his term, and 66% of all respondents gave the minister a "not good" grade. The frustration with Kisch's performance is more prominent in state education (about 78%), while in state-religious education a majority was recorded, but a smaller one, standing at 52%. In contrast, precisely in the Haredi sector, high satisfaction with the minister's performance was recorded - 47%.

Director of the State Education Watch, Adv. Itamar Kramer stated:

"The only ones who are satisfied with Kisch are the Haredim. This reflects a disturbing reality. The low support for Kisch in the general public compared to the support for him in the Haredi public exposes his priorities. Instead of dealing with the shortage of teachers and the erosion of trust, he prefers private networks and sectoral policy at the expense of state education and all of our children."
