Rotem Sela on the elections: "I am simply unable to keep my mouth shut"
Rotem Sela talks about the elections, reveals whether she has decided who to vote for, and explains why she refuses to remain silent on political issues despite the professional risk.
At the heart of the stormy public and media discourse of the election period, a unique voice stands out in the landscape. While many in the industry prefer to maintain cautious ambiguity and dodge political topics so as not to risk losing an audience or contracts, Rotem Sela continues to clarify that for her, involvement is not a privilege but a civic duty.
When asked about her decision at the ballot box and whether she had already formed a position regarding the ballot she would cast, she replied honestly: "No, to tell the truth, not yet." But alongside personal deliberations regarding the right party, the issue of participating in the elections themselves does not stand for any question mark from her perspective. When asked if she ever considered refraining from voting, she dismissed it:
"How can one not vote? It is forbidden not to vote, one must vote. This is our duty," she shared in an interview with Pnai Plus.
Sela's willingness to express a position is considered quite unusual among prominent figures of her status in the entertainment world, most of whom prefer to keep a low profile on controversial issues. In response to the question of whether the freedom to take a stand is lacking among other artists and influencers, Sela presented a complex and respectful approach:
"I think everyone should do what is good for them. I do think that if you have something to say, then say it, because there is an influence on people, and I am simply unable to keep my mouth shut. I don't have that feature on these issues, for me it comes naturally, but I also understand those who don't."
Sela's statements do not surprise those who follow her career and public statements over the years. The model, actress, and television host has more than once led discussions on social and political issues, the most famous of which was the criticism she leveled at the discriminatory discourse toward the Arab sector in Israel ("All citizens are born equal"). This time too, when asked if she feels fear or a threat to her professional status before she speaks out, she replied with full confidence and without hesitation: "Absolutely not."
