Georgina Rodriguez Slams Portugal Coach
The controversy surrounding Cristiano Ronaldo and Portugal national team coach Jorge Jesus has escalated significantly. Georgina Rodriguez, the partner of the Portuguese superstar, intervened in the affair by posting a sharp message against the coach on her Instagram story, though she deleted it minutes later.
Rodriguez shared a post featuring a quote attributed to Sir Alex Ferguson, suggesting that if Jesus knew in advance he had no intention of using Ronaldo, he should not have called him up to the squad. Alongside the post, Georgina wrote: "I don't know how this man can bear the name of Jesus." However, the story was removed after just three minutes.
Conflict and Departure
Georgina's intervention comes against the backdrop of an ongoing dispute between Ronaldo and Jesus, which began after the coach left the star out entirely in a match against Norway. Later, Jesus announced he also did not intend to use him in a game against Denmark, prompting Ronaldo to leave the national team camp.
For his part, Jesus attempted to de-escalate the tension. When asked if he was open to reconciliation with Ronaldo, he said: "The focus must first and foremost be on the national team; after the match, there will be plenty of time to talk about this." When asked if he had been in contact with Ronaldo, he stated: "I am part of a group, I am its commander."
Jesus and the federation president went to the airport in an attempt to persuade Ronaldo to stay with the squad, but to no avail. Following the incident, the star published a statement writing that "in due time" he would tell the Portuguese people the truth about the reasons that led him to leave the national team camp.
Ronaldo, who holds the record for most appearances and goals for the Portugal national team with 234 matches and 146 goals, has not yet announced his retirement from international play. His international career began in 2003 and includes winning Euro 2016 and two UEFA Nations League titles in 2019 and 2025.
