Returning to the political arena: Avraham Burg to run for the Knesset
Former Knesset Speaker and former Chairman of the Jewish Agency Avraham Burg has joined "Mekom Le-Kulanu" ("A Place for All of Us"), a new Israeli party shared by Jews and Arabs. Established in June 2026, the party is led by activists Rula Daoud and Alon-Lee Green.
Avraham (Avrum) Burg announced on Saturday that he is joining the "Mekom Le-Kulanu" party and will run for the Knesset on its behalf. Burg, 71, previously served as a Member of the Knesset, Speaker of the 15th Knesset, and Chairman of the Jewish Agency. After retiring from political life, he focused on writing and has published seven books.
In June 2025, Burg spoke out against Operation "Am Kelavi," stating: "This war is the most unnecessary and cynical of Israel's wars."
In an interview with journalist Tucker Carlson, Burg criticized Operation "Lion's Roar," describing it as the "First World War of Jewish and Christian fundamentalism." He also condemned the Israeli settlement enterprise, characterizing the actions of some settlers as "daily crimes against innocent Palestinians."
In June 2022, Burg and a group of Jewish and Arab partners began establishing a new civil party aimed at fostering political partnership between Jews and Arabs. The party was founded in August 2022 under the name "Kol Ezracheha" ("All Its Citizens"), though it was decided at the time not to run in the 25th Knesset elections.
"Mekom Le-Kulanu" is a new Israeli party established in June 2026. It is led by activists Rula Daoud, a leader of the "Standing Together" movement, and Alon-Lee Green.
