A political dispute erupted between Transportation Minister Miri Regev and former senior official Keren Terner-Eyal over responsibility for a security incident involving a flydubai flight. Appearing on Channel 11's Saturday News, Regev blamed security agencies for assessing threat levels while dismissing Terner-Eyal's criticism, claiming the former director-general is engaged in a political campaign as part of the opposition list BeYachad.

Clash Over Aviation Security Responsibility

During the television interview, Regev addressed allegations regarding her ministry's handling of foreign airline security. She argued that operational oversight is strictly divided among intelligence bodies, noting that the Shin Bet secures Israeli carriers while the Mossad oversees foreign airlines such as flydubai. Regev stated that no security agency has barred Israelis from flying with foreign carriers to Dubai, adding that security assessments dictate destination viability.

"She is in a political campaign, in her place I would keep quiet, because the security personnel have a lot to say about her as director-general," Regev stated during the broadcast.

Terner-Eyal Counters With Government Regulations

Shortly after the broadcast, Terner-Eyal responded via social media platform X, detailing four key points regarding statutory responsibilities. She emphasized that the Civil Aviation Authority operates under the direct authority of the Transportation Minister, and explicitly stated that responsibility for securing foreign carriers rests with the ministry rather than intelligence agencies.

Terner-Eyal also cited a classified State Comptroller report from May 2024, alleging that Regev failed to address preparedness gaps within the ministry's security division. Concluding her statement, Terner-Eyal criticized administrative appointments within the ministry, calling for accountability following the recent aviation scare.
