Israeli Record: Tomer Shuster Reaches 50m Backstroke Final at European Championships
Tomer Shuster secured his place among the top eight swimmers in Europe in the 50m backstroke with a personal best of 24.36 seconds. This performance marks a new Israeli record and qualifies him for the upcoming World Championships.
Tomer Shuster (Maccabi Rishon LeZion) secured his spot in the men's 50m backstroke final after an outstanding performance, finishing fourth with an impressive time of 24.36 seconds. This time sets a new Israeli record, surpassing Yonatan Kopelev's 2016 mark. Earlier in the morning qualifiers, Shuster had already set a personal best of 24.62 seconds, securing the qualifying criteria for the 2027 World Championships. Tomorrow, he will compete in his first-ever European Championship final.
Three other Israelis participated in the 50m backstroke: Michael Laitarovsky (Jerusalem Rabbati) finished 27th (25.14s), Inbar Danziger (Hapoel Jerusalem) ranked 35th (25.36s), and Okan Goldin (Maccabi Nahariya) finished 51st (25.62s).
In the men's 200m freestyle, Denis Loktev finished 18th in the qualifiers (1:47.21), serving as the first reserve for the semifinals. Eitan Ben Shitrit (Jerusalem Rabbati) set a personal record of 1:47.59 (26th place), Alexey Glivinski ranked 31st (1:47.83), and Yoav Romano (Maccabi Shoham) finished 34th (1:48.09).
The 4x100m freestyle relay team, consisting of Alexey Glivinski, Denis Loktev, Daniel Krichevsky, and Martin Kartavi, finished 10th in the qualifiers with a time of 3:15.45, placing them as the second reserve for the grand final.
