More than half of the employees at the Israeli-founded startup RealSense have become millionaires following a massive acquisition deal, underscoring a remarkable turnaround in the high-tech sector.

A Cinderella Story in High-Tech

The company, which develops advanced 3D camera systems and sensors functioning as the "brain" for robots, was sold to the American barcode camera manufacturer Cognex for 500 million dollars to investors and over 100 million dollars in various employee rewards. This milestone was achieved just 14 months after RealSense began operating as an independent spin-off from Intel.

Originally launched as an internal project inside Intel 16 years ago, RealSense faced closure when former Intel CEO Pat Gelsinger considered shuttering the division to refocus on core foundry manufacturing. However, Israeli manager Nadab Urbach intervened, convincing leadership of the booming robotics market driven by industry giants like Elon Musk and Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang.

Securing Investments and Market Dominance

Backed by 53 million dollars in funding from Intel Capital, MediaTek, and other external investors, the company secured key partnerships with major robotics firms, including Boston Dynamics and Unitree. Today, RealSense commands over 50% of the 3D camera market for robotics and expects revenues of 80 to 90 million dollars this year.

"The robotics market is exploding, and our team's perseverance has truly paid off in ways that defy conventional industry expectations," noted market observers following the Cognex acquisition.

Out of 180 total employees—including 140 in Israel—110 staff members who remained loyal during the spin-off transition reaped the rewards, with 80 individuals crossing into millionaire status.
