Rami Levy, Carrefour or Shufersal: which chain is the cheapest for holiday shopping
A special check of the basket of popular fish ahead of the holidays shows differences of tens of shekels per kilogram between the major chains. Who is the most expensive and where will you find the cheapest price?
Ahead of the holiday season and the growing demand for traditional holiday foods, a positive trend is being recorded for consumers with a decrease in fish prices in the major retail chains. In a study conducted by the "Gilboa Index" program of Niv Gilboa on the i24News channel, the prices of a basket of popular fish were checked and significant gaps were revealed between the various chains.
In the fresh sea bream fillet segment, the most expensive chain checked is Tiv Taam, where a kilogram is sold at a price of 159.90 shekels. In contrast, in the Carrefour chain, the price stands at 149.90 shekels per kilogram, while the cheapest chain in this category is Rami Levy, which offers the fish at a price of 128.90 shekels per kilogram.
Significant differences were also recorded in the prices of fresh sea bass fillet. The Carrefour chain is at the top of the list as the most expensive chain with a price of 159.90 shekels per kilogram. In the middle place is the Machsanei HaShuk chain, which offers a kilogram of sea bass fillet for 149.90 shekels. The cheapest chain checked for this fish is Shufersal Deal, where you will pay 139 shekels per kilogram.
The gaps between the various players in the market highlight the importance of comparing prices before concentrated holiday shopping, as choosing the cheaper chain may save tens of shekels in the family shopping basket.
