Supporters of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu gathered outside the home of Yashar! party leader and MK Gadi Eisenkot, hurling severe verbal abuse, including accusations that he caused his son's death. The incident occurred amid ongoing political tensions following the recent election campaign.
During the protest, demonstrators shouted hostile slogans, with one individual using a megaphone to target Eisenkot, whose son, Master Sergeant (res.) Gal Meir Eisenkot, was killed in combat in the Gaza Strip in December 2023. The demonstration drew immediate and sharp condemnation from across the political spectrum.
The Democrats leader Yair Golan strongly denounced the incident, stating that such rhetoric reflects the toxic atmosphere propagated by political actors. Golan expressed full solidarity with Eisenkot and announced upcoming meetings with Yisrael Beytenu leader Avigdor Lieberman as coalition consultations continue ahead of the upcoming presidential recommendations.
Meanwhile, political maneuvers within the opposition bloc are intensifying. The BeYachad party, led by former Prime Minister Naftali Bennett, announced it will recommend Eisenkot to the president as candidate for prime minister, while deliberations among other faction leaders remain ongoing.
