Founder of Facility Where Presley Gerber Died Had Past Criminal Record
The owner of the facility where Presley Gerber died faced past criminal charges and a denied psychology license. The Santa Monica sober living home was unregistered as a formal medical rehab.
The owner and founder of the California recovery facility where Presley Gerber tragically passed away previously faced a license denial for clinical practice due to a criminal record involving methamphetamine and minors. According to Page Six, Dr. Reza Nabavii, 50, was arrested in February 2002 after police found him asleep in his vehicle in a high-crime area of Oakland alongside a 15-year-old minor under the influence of drugs.
Facility Status and Legal Gray Areas
The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner's office has yet to release the official cause of death for 27-year-old Gerber, the son of supermodel Cindy Crawford and businessman Rande Gerber, who arrived at the luxury Santa Monica residence just a day before his death. While the three-story, $7.7 million property with panoramic ocean and mountain views has been described as a rehab center, a representative for the California Department of Health Care Services (DHCS) clarified that it is not a licensed residential substance use disorder treatment facility.
"The facility operates as a supportive living framework, which under California law does not require the specific operating licenses mandated for medical rehabilitation centers," a DHCS representative noted.
Criminal Past and Professional Licensure
Court records reveal that following his 2002 arrest—where officers discovered meth, marijuana, a hunting knife, a firearm, and ammunition—Nabavii received probation. He was arrested again months later for attempting to sell narcotics to an undercover operative. Despite these felony convictions, Nabavii eventually obtained a psychological assistant registration in 2006 under strict probationary terms, securing his full psychologist license shortly thereafter.
Between 2006 and 2011, Nabavii directed family services at the prominent celebrity rehab center Promises Malibu before opening Resolutions Living in Santa Monica. Reports indicate that Gerber was visibly under the influence upon arriving at the facility on Saturday, raising serious questions regarding admission protocols at the unlicenced sober living home.
