Pete Davidson recently opened up about his tumultuous relationship with Kim Kardashian and the intense public fallout with Kanye West in a candid interview with Variety. Reflecting on their romance, which began after meeting on Saturday Night Live in October 2021, Davidson described himself as one of the few proud survivors. Despite Kardashian being consistently respectful, the combination of intense media scrutiny, tight security, and his own mental health struggles made the period exceptionally challenging.

The Kanye West Feud and Mental Health Struggles

Complicating matters further was Kardashian's ex-husband, Kanye West, who targeted Davidson publicly despite knowing about the comedian's vulnerabilities. West launched online threats and featured a claymation version of Davidson being buried alive in his music video for Eazy. Davidson admitted that the relentless pressure nearly drove him to a breaking point, though he later expressed a degree of empathy for the rapper, noting that they shared the pain of losing a parent and battling mental health issues.

What drove me crazy was that I was very open about my mental health struggles, everyone knows that about me, and then he basically said, 'Go kill yourself.' And he really pushed me to that, Davidson shared.

Hitting Rock Bottom and Road to Recovery

Davidson revealed that by the summer of 2023, following the release of his semi-autobiographical series Bupkis, his substance abuse peaked. Reliving past traumas for the show led him to self-medicate with ketamine, acid, mushrooms, nitrous oxide, and prescription pills. A pivotal FaceTime call with his mother, Amy, where she expressed her constant fear of waking up to news of his death, prompted him to check into rehab and walk away from his television career.

  • Admitted to severe substance abuse involving ketamine, psychedelics, and prescription drugs.

  • Checked into rehabilitation after a emotional wake-up call from his mother.

  • Celebrated over two years of sobriety from hard drugs, focusing heavily on his personal healing and mental well-being.
