Oracle Initiates New Round of Layoffs Amid AI Infrastructure Spending
Oracle has initiated a new round of layoffs starting Monday as part of organizational restructuring to cut payroll expenses and fund AI infrastructure investments.
Oracle has initiated a new round of layoffs, according to three affected employees and an internal email reviewed by Business Insider. The layoffs began on Monday, though the exact scale of the cuts remains unclear.
"Following a thorough review of Oracle's current business needs, we have decided to eliminate your position as part of a broader organizational change," stated the termination notices reviewed by Business Insider. "As a result, today is your last day of work."
Business Insider reported last month that the software giant had drafted plans for another round of layoffs aimed at reducing payroll expenses, as the company accumulates billions of dollars in debt to fund its artificial intelligence infrastructure investments. According to the report, planned cuts could reach double-digit percentages in certain teams, based on an internal company document.
The current round of layoffs follows significant workforce reductions already executed by Oracle over the past year. As of May 31, the company's headcount dropped by 21,000 over the previous year, reflecting a 13% reduction in Oracle's workforce. According to its latest financial report, Oracle currently employs 141,000 workers following these recent rounds of cuts.
