Obama Mocks Trump Administration Over 'Cheesecake Factory' Interior Joke
Former US President Barack Obama criticized the Donald Trump administration during a Georgia rally, mocking its disproportionate response to a joke comparing White House decor to a Cheesecake Factory.

Former US President Barack Obama has renewed his criticism of the Donald Trump administration, blasting what he described as an absurd governmental reaction to a joke he made regarding White House interior design. Speaking at a political rally in Georgia to support Democratic candidates Jon Ossoff and Keisha Lance Bottoms, Obama lambasted the administration's misplaced priorities amid ongoing political campaigns.
The controversy erupted following an earlier rally in Ohio, where Obama joked that the renovations and interior styling introduced by Donald Trump made the executive mansion look as though Saddam Hussein had opened a branch of The Cheesecake Factory. The remark drew a furious response from President Donald Trump, who fired back by labeling Obama a failed president and defending the restaurant chain as a successful business.
Addressing the crowd in Atlanta, Obama expressed bewilderment at the administration's disproportionate outrage. "They mobilized a whole-of-government response to that joke. Not to inflation, but to that joke," Obama told cheering supporters. He noted that while the administration remained silent on accusations of inflation, rising tariffs, and high-level corruption, the president was deeply aggrieved by the culinary comparison.
Obama highlighted what he characterized as a severe distortion of governance, pointing out that senior officials reportedly contacted the Treasury Secretary over the remarks. "This is the man who is in charge of the economy, the person who's supposed to be figuring out how to make your life more affordable, how to lower inflation and reduce interest rates. They told him he should hold a press conference in front of The Cheesecake Factory," Obama quipped.
Responding to conservative critics who accused him of elitism, Obama defended the restaurant chain, noting that he frequented it with his daughters for years. However, he emphasized that an administration prioritizing interior design spats over the economic hardships of American families demonstrates a profound lack of seriousness.
