The two suspects in the murder of Eldar Dayan, whose remains were found near the Yarkon junction, have begun to speak during interrogation after days of silence. Police believe their testimonies will shed light on his final moments.
A dramatic development has emerged in the investigation into the murder of Eldar Dayan, whose remains were found yesterday morning in an open area about 50 meters from the Paz gas station in Petah Tikva, where he was last seen on Saturday, July 18.
The two suspects arrested in the case, whose detention was extended yesterday by seven days, have begun to speak during interrogation after several days of exercising their right to remain silent. Today, the investigation at the Central Unit of the Sharon District intensified as the two suspects were questioned separately. Police sources told Maariv:
"In the coming days, we will know exactly what happened in the final moments of the late Eldar Dayan."
As previously reported, the remains of Dayan, a resident of Dimona, were located yesterday after a police dog handler led forces to the site. Items of clothing were found near the remains, and investigators are awaiting results from the Institute of Forensic Medicine to determine the cause and time of death, as well as to uncover evidence that may clarify the circumstances of his demise.
At the center of the investigation are two of Dayan's friends who were arrested following his disappearance. Investigators are also examining two motorcycle helmets found in the area and the vehicle in which the three men traveled, which was found abandoned near the gas station with its license plates removed. Until this recent development, the suspects had maintained their silence, leaving investigators to piece together what occurred from the moment the trio arrived in the area until Dayan's disappearance.
