The 2026 Nobel Prize in Physics is awarded to Belgian researcher Francis Halzen for high-energy neutrino discoveries, following the Medicine Prize announcement.

The Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences announced its decision to award the 2026 Nobel Prize in Physics to Belgian researcher Francis Halzen for his decisive contributions to neutrino astronomy and the detection of high-energy neutrinos from astrophysical sources.
Previously, the Nobel Committee announced the 2026 Nobel Prize in Medicine to Karl Deisseroth from the United States, along with Peter Hegemann and Georg Nagel from Germany, for discoveries concerning light-gated ion channels and optogenetics.
The committee praised their work, noting it led to foundational discoveries enabling the control of individual neurons in living brains. This method is currently utilized in laboratories worldwide to unravel the mysteries of the brain.
