Niv Gilboa in sharp attack on pizza chains: "Plastic stuck to my mouth"
The extensive pizza test by i24NEWS revealed a price gap of tens of shekels between chains in Israel, sparking a studio debate following harsh criticism from a well-known commentator regarding budget pizzas.
The price gaps between pizza chains in Israel were at the center of a consumer test conducted by i24NEWS consumer correspondent Dana Yarkatsi. Beyond the price comparison and tastings, the commentary of Niv Gilboa drew significant attention due to his sharp criticism of low-cost pizzas.
Yarkatsi presented findings covering chains offering family pizzas across a wide price range. At the lower end were "Pizza Shemesh" and "Pizza Story" (30 NIS). They were followed by "Duda LePizza" (38 NIS), "Pizza Patzatz" (62 NIS), "Pizza Agvania" (68 NIS), and "Pizza Parego" (nearly 70 NIS).
On the higher end of the price table were "Pizza Hut" (74.90 NIS), "Papa John's" (75.90 NIS), and "Domino's" (78.90 NIS).
When the conversation in the studio turned to low-cost pizzas, Gilboa provided a sharp critique:
"Plastic stuck to my mouth from the taste. It's not the right cheese, it's not the right dough, they don't know how to do it. They make it so cheap with all kinds of substitutes, God forbid. What mozzarella? It's not mozzarella, it's just something else."
The discussion highlighted a question relevant to many consumers: how do certain chains manage to offer pizza at a price tens of shekels lower than competitors, and does the price reflect the quality of ingredients?
At "Pizza Shemesh," one of the low-cost chains included in the test, they rejected the claim that low prices come at the expense of product quality. The owner of the chain stated:
"We use the best raw materials there are."
