Netflix has announced the acquisition of full broadcasting rights for the 2030 FIFA World Cup in Spain and Andorra. In a landmark deal, the streaming giant will hold exclusive rights to all 104 matches of the tournament, marking a major escalation in its entry into the European sports broadcasting market.

Comprehensive Coverage and Free-to-Air Compromise

Netflix plans to provide an extensive broadcasting package, including live coverage of all matches, pre-match, half-time, and post-match shows, alongside a daily recap program. The company also intends to air special buildup content ahead of the tournament to maximize engagement.

"This agreement represents a massive step forward in our commitment to bringing world-class live sports to our global subscriber base," said an industry analyst following the announcement.

To comply with local regulations and public interest, the agreement includes provisions ensuring that matches remain accessible to non-subscribers:

  • One match per day will be available for free viewing in Spain.

  • A national free-to-air broadcaster will air all Spanish national team matches.

  • Both semi-finals and the final will also be broadcast on free television.

Global Sports Strategy

Spain, which recently triumphed in the 2026 World Cup following a victory over Argentina in the final, is set to co-host the 2030 tournament alongside Morocco and Portugal. The 2030 event will celebrate the tournament's centenary, with commemorative matches also scheduled in Argentina, Paraguay, and Uruguay.

This is not Netflix's first major foray into football broadcasting. The company already holds rights to the 2027 and 2031 Women's World Cups and secured a four-year agreement with CONCACAF to broadcast regional tournaments in Mexico starting in 2027. Having previously broadcast NFL and MLB games in the United States, alongside combat sports, securing the men's World Cup rights in a major European football nation underscores Netflix's aggressive expansion into live sports.
