The Supreme Allied Commander Europe, U.S. General Alexus Grynkewich, issued a sharp warning to Russia, clarifying that in the event of an attack on any of the 32 member states, NATO forces will act not only to halt the enemy but also to destroy the systems and infrastructure supporting its military operations. Speaking at the Warsaw Security Forum in Poland, the general outlined a strategy designed to thwart future attacks and ensure any attempt to harm a member state ends in failure.

NATO Operational Strategy

During a discussion titled "Theory of Victory: How to Achieve Military Success Against Russia in Deterrence and Defense," Grynkewich presented NATO's operational concept for a conflict scenario. He stated that if the adversary chooses to continue its offensive or deploy strategic reserves, NATO will break the combat system deployed against it.

If someone is foolish enough to attack us, our people will fight, and every attack will be rendered completely useless.

Three-Stage Defense Plan

The commander outlined a three-stage strategy consisting of containment, weakening, and breaking:

  • Containment: Halting the initial enemy advance and preventing progress into allied territory.

  • Weakening: Attriting and reducing operational capabilities if forces attempt to breach defenses.

  • Breaking: Destroying the entire adversary military array, including command and support systems.

Regional Tensions and Nuclear Threats

The warning comes amid rising tensions with Moscow over airspace incursions involving Russian drones in Poland, prompting the "Eastern Sentry" operation. Meanwhile, Russian nuclear threats regarding the Kaliningrad exclave were dismissed by NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte, emphasizing that Vladimir Putin knows he can never win against the alliance.
