Munich Oktoberfest Pro-Palestinian Protest Ends in Slap and Political Ban
Left-wing youth activists disrupted Munich's City Hall Oktoberfest celebrations with pro-Palestinian chants, leading to a physical altercation with an FDP councilman.

Members of the youth wing of the German Left Party, Die Linke, turned the traditional Munich City Hall Oktoberfest celebrations into a political demonstration chanting anti-Israel slogans and calling for a free Palestine.
Oktoberfest Protest and Confrontation
The young activists draped themselves in keffiyehs and placed watermelon symbols on their reserved table to show pro-Palestinian support. They modified traditional Bavarian songs to include the phrase "Free Palestine" and shouted anti-Israel slogans. Jörg Hoffmann, a city council member and leader of the FDP faction, approached the group to demand they stop, eventually calling security to escort them out.
"It was a very unpleasant situation. I watched it for a while, but then I thought: this cannot go on," Hoffmann told the BILD news site.
Later, three young women associated with the group returned to the table. Hoffmann confronted them, leading to an argument during which he was called a "genocide murderer" and slapped in the face by one of the women.
Municipal and Political Fallout
Munich Mayor Dominik Krause strongly condemned the incident and decided to ban the youth wing of Die Linke from future municipal celebrations. Stefan Jagel, leader of the Left Party's parliamentary group, also apologized to Hoffmann and distanced the party from the violence, though noting the woman who struck Hoffmann was a guest rather than an official member.
