Police in Mumbai made a startling discovery on Monday night when officers raided a neighborhood clinic in the Malad area and found the preserved body of an 80-year-old man who died in 2022. The unusual incident came to light following a tip from local residents after the clinic had been closed for about a month for renovation work.

A preliminary police investigation revealed that medical documents provided by the deceased man's family confirmed he passed away from natural causes four years ago. Since his death, the body had been kept inside a temperature-controlled freezer, with relatives explaining during questioning that they were simply unable to accept his passing.

The family told officers that following the death, they began researching cryonics—an experimental method of preserving human bodies at extremely low temperatures in the hope that future technological and medical advancements might revive them. They claimed they had looked into the possibility of flying the body to the United States for indefinite deep-freeze preservation.

Local police are currently examining the legal aspects of the extraordinary case. A Kurar police officer stated that no formal criminal case (FIR) has been registered yet, as investigators are studying relevant laws concerning the unauthorized storage of a body outside licensed facilities without burial for such an extended period.
