Motorola Solutions Completes $1.5 Billion Acquisition of D-Fend
Motorola Solutions is paying $1.5 billion for D-Fend's cyber technology, which enables the remote takeover of hostile drones. Founder Zohar Halachmi will join Motorola as a Senior Vice President.
Communications giant Motorola Solutions has announced the completion of its acquisition of the cyber company D-Fend Solutions, a leader in drone defense technologies, in a deal valued at $1.5 billion. This strategic move is intended to provide public safety agencies and critical infrastructure operators with advanced tools for controlling airspace.
Unlike traditional interception systems (kinetic or jamming-based) that can cause collateral damage, D-Fend has developed a unique cyber-takeover technology based on radio frequencies (RF). The system is capable of identifying hostile drones, taking control of them remotely, and directing them to a safe landing in pre-defined areas — all without disrupting local communication networks.
"Safety on the ground requires security in the air," said Greg Brown, Chairman and CEO of Motorola Solutions, who emphasized that D-Fend's technology is a natural complement to the company's ecosystem.
As previously reported, the intention to carry out the deal was announced in June, and it is now finalized.
With the completion of the deal, Zohar Halachmi, co-founder and CEO of D-Fend, will continue to lead the company's operations and will be appointed Senior Vice President at Motorola. "The combination with Motorola's global presence will allow us to expand at a rapid pace and change the way airspace is protected around the world," noted Halachmi. D-Fend's systems are already operating successfully in over 30 countries, including at airports, stadiums, and military bases.
