Mohamed Salah scored his debut goals in the Turkish league and secured a victory

After the loss to Ferencváros and Gabi Kanichowsky in the first leg of the Europa League playoffs, Mohamed Salah started for Trabzonspor for the first time in the Turkish league and led them to a 2:1 home victory over İstanbul Başakşehir in the second round.

The Egyptian capitalized on a goalkeeper's fumble in the eighth minute and scored off the post, with the goal confirmed after a VAR check. In the 48th minute, he completed a brace with a curling left-footed shot to decide the match. Salah's brace helped Trabzonspor achieve its first win of the 2026/27 season.

The high-profile star had already come on as a substitute in the 1:1 draw against Kasımpaşa last week and started, as mentioned, in the 1:0 loss to Ferencváros in the Europa League playoffs, but had not yet scored for his new club until this evening. The 34-year-old winger signed a two-year contract at the beginning of the month after spending nine years at Liverpool.

Trabzonspor, which finished in third place last season and has not won the championship since 2022, has high hopes for the glittering signing, who reportedly earns close to 17 million euros per season. The arrival of the Egypt national team captain is already being felt off the pitch as well: the president of the Trabzon Chamber of Commerce and Industry stated that there has been a significant increase in tourism demand for the city from Egypt and North Africa.
