A new record in sports memorabilia was shattered when the jersey worn by Michael Jordan during Game 3 of the 1998 NBA Finals between the Chicago Bulls and the Utah Jazz was sold for 12.26 million dollars.
Coming from the famous "Last Dance" season of the Bulls, the jersey was sold through Pharrell Williams' auction house, Joopiter. Prior to the sale, its value was estimated between 10 and 15 million dollars, and it ultimately received a single bid before the auction closed.
The previous record for a Jordan jersey stood at approximately 10.1 million dollars for the jersey he wore in Game 1 of the same 1998 finals, sold at Sotheby's in 2022. Despite the new milestone, the most expensive sports jersey in history still belongs to Babe Ruth, whose 1932 World Series "called shot" jersey sold in 2024 for 24.12 million dollars.
Interest surrounding Jordan items continues to break records across other categories as well. A signed 1986 rookie card sold for 2.5 million dollars, and a unique dual-signed card featuring Jordan and Kobe Bryant fetched 12.9 million dollars, setting a public auction record for a sports card.
