IAC Demands Macklemore’s Removal from Ed Sheeran Tour Over Pro-Palestinian Show
The Israeli-American Council (IAC) has launched a petition urging Ed Sheeran to drop rapper Macklemore from his tour following a highly political opening performance in New Jersey featuring Gaza footage.
The Israeli-American Council (IAC) has formally requested that British pop star Ed Sheeran, his management, and tour promoters remove American rapper Macklemore from the remaining dates of the "LOOP" concert tour. The demand follows a controversial opening set on September 4 at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey, which featured heavy pro-Palestinian political messaging.
Political Rally on a Concert Stage
According to the IAC and concertgoers, Macklemore’s opening performance was transformed into a political demonstration. The rapper delivered lengthy political speeches, chanted "Free Palestine," and performed his track Hind’s Hall—a song dedicated to the pro-Palestinian student protests at Columbia University—while giant stadium screens displayed footage from Gaza.
Michaela, an Israeli fan who traveled from Israel specifically for the concert, shared her experience:
"We expected perhaps a brief mention of Palestine, not an entire one-hour opening set dedicated to the topic. It was incredibly stressful and intimidating when the crowd around us started chanting along. We felt so unsafe that we left in the middle of Macklemore's set, meaning we missed Ed Sheeran's performance entirely."
Michaela noted that her tickets cost over $500, in addition to thousands spent on flights and hotels. She is currently seeking a refund and a public apology through Ticketmaster and Sheeran's management.
Demands for Accountability
In its petition, the IAC addressed Ed Sheeran, his manager Stuart Camp, Messina Touring Group, AEG Presents, and MetLife Stadium management. The organization emphasized that the issue is not Macklemore's right to hold political views, but rather the exploitation of a major international music tour to promote a one-sided political agenda.
The IAC's petition outlines several key demands:

The petition concluded with a direct message to the organizers:
"Freedom of speech does not mean freedom from responsibility. Your show. Your stage. Your responsibility. Keep Ed Sheeran’s tour about music, not political propaganda."
