Maccabi Haifa Amputees won the first-ever EAFF Conference League trophy on Friday after a 4:0 victory over Scottish club AYR in Bucharest.
Historic achievement for Maccabi Haifa Amputees, which won the first-ever Conference League trophy on Friday after a crushing 4:0 victory over Scotland's AYR. The Greens entered the match following two wins in their first two games, needing only a draw to secure the title, but finished the tournament in a far more impressive fashion.
Ben Binyamin scored the opening goal and completed a brace just five minutes later. Aviran Ohana added the third, and in stoppage time Ben Maman made it 4:0 following an assist by Yanir Cohen. With the final whistle, an outburst of emotion followed, and coach Sharon Paz struggled to hold back his tears.
This is the inaugural edition of the EAFF Conference League tournament, held in Bucharest and hosted by FCSB. Maccabi Haifa's squad includes amputees injured during military service, Nova festival survivors, and road accident victims.
The Conference League trophy presentation ceremony will be held today at 17:00.
