A 22-year-old Palestinian student from Gaza has been suspended from Maastricht University in the Netherlands after posting a video on social media showing him watching footage of the October 7 Hamas massacre and claiming to be one of the terrorists.
The video, originally posted on Instagram and later deleted, shows the student identified as Husein Eissa watching coverage of the attack alongside three other individuals. When masked gunmen appear on the screen, he points at the television, gives a thumbs up, smiles at the camera, and says, "Seventh of October. This is me."
University Response and Public Backlash
Following the uproar, Maastricht University temporarily suspended the student, barring him from attending classes. In an official statement, the university explained that the post and subsequent reactions raised significant concerns regarding the safety and well-being of students and staff.
"The post, as well as the reactions to it and the publications that followed on various social media channels, are such that we cannot rule out concern and unrest among students and employees," the university stated.
Dutch far-right opposition leader Geert Wilders strongly condemned the suspension as insufficient, demanding the student's immediate deportation.

Dutch media outlets have emphasized that law enforcement and judicial authorities have not officially verified whether the student genuinely participated in the October 7 atrocities or if the statement was merely a provocative boast.
