Today marks the 45th birthday of Lucy Ahrisch, a prominent journalist, television anchor, and bridge-builder in Israeli society. Born in Nazareth and raised in the southern city of Dimona, she grew up in a predominantly Jewish environment as the only Arab student in her class, shaping her unique and complex identity.

1. Childhood in Dimona and Surviving Terror

Growing up in the southern periphery, Ahrisch experienced firsthand the realities of coexistence and conflict. In April 1987, when she was just five and a half years old, her family's car was targeted by terrorists in the Gaza Strip who hurled a firebomb. She miraculously survived with minor burns, an event that deeply influenced her lifelong stance against hatred and violence.

2. From Theatre to Hollywood with Brad Pitt

Beyond her serious journalism and studies at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, Ahrisch holds a degree in theatre and political science. Her acting talent even led her to the silver screen with a small role in the 2013 blockbuster zombie thriller "World War Z," starring alongside Brad Pitt.

3. Media Pioneer and Torchlighter

Ahrisch made history as the first Arab woman to anchor a mainstream Hebrew-language news edition on Israeli commercial television. In recognition of her role as a symbol of tolerance and coexistence, she was chosen in 2015 to light a torch at the official Independence Day ceremony on Mount Herzl.

4. Keeping Love a Secret for Four Years

Her high-profile marriage to well-known Israeli actor Tsahi Halevi captivated the public, but few know that the couple managed to keep their relationship entirely under wraps for nearly four years before tying the knot in 2018. They successfully avoided public scrutiny and threats until their secret wedding broke the internet.
