Lonnie Walker's latest attempt to return to the NBA ended in disappointment as the American guard, who left Maccabi Tel Aviv in the summer to join the Denver Nuggets, was waived before the start of the regular season. Walker arrived in Denver on an unprotected one-year contract worth $3.3 million but failed to convince the coaching staff to secure his spot on the roster.

The Road to Denver and the Cut

After signing a three-year contract with Maccabi Tel Aviv last summer, Walker chose to exercise his NBA buyout clause to test the waters in the world's premier league once again. However, during the preseason games, it quickly became apparent that his standing in Denver was far from secure.

"The decision to waive Walker comes as the Nuggets trim their roster ahead of opening night, following limited minutes in the preseason and a DNP against Chicago." — Basketball Analysts

Future Prospects in Europe

Despite the disappointing end in Denver, Walker hits the free-agent market following a successful individual season with the yellow-and-blue. In his appearances for Maccabi Tel Aviv, he averaged 15.2 points, 2.5 rebounds, and 2.2 assists in 45 games, shooting 40% from beyond the arc. These impressive numbers make him a highly sought-after target for European clubs.

Concurrently, reports indicate that Walker has changed agents, appointing Miško Ražnatović, one of the most prominent figures in European basketball, to represent him. Ražnatović is expected to actively explore options outside the United States, significantly increasing the likelihood of a return to the EuroLeague.
