During a hearing at the Likud party court, a fierce confrontation erupted, nearly escalating into physical violence, between Minister and Likud Central Committee Chairman Chaim Katz and attorney Chovev Demri, husband of Minister Gila Gamliel.
According to reports from the scene, tempers flared rapidly in the courtroom. Minister Chaim Katz was heard shouting curses at attorney Chovev Demri, telling him to get out in a highly offensive manner. In response, Demri approached Katz. One of the women present in the hall quickly intervened to pull Demri away and prevent a physical altercation, while Minister Gila Gamliel stood by her husband's side, watching the events unfold.
Political Battle Over the Knesset List
This unusual incident occurs against the backdrop of an intense political struggle over the composition of the Likud list for the Knesset. Over the past month, the party has been in turmoil over the issue of the vote recount, a move that has sparked strong opposition and deep concern from Minister Gila Gamliel.
Gamliel believes that the recount is designed to push her down to an unrealistic spot on the list, replacing her in the slot reserved for women with Member of Knesset Eti Atiah, who is considered very close to Minister Chaim Katz. Due to these concerns, Gamliel filed an official complaint with the police, alleging fraud in the internal election process.
At the end of the court hearing, those involved in the confrontation calmed down and even agreed to release a reconciliation photo to the media featuring Eti Atiah, Chovev Demri, and Chaim Katz.
