Heads of confrontation line municipalities demand concrete commitments from parties regarding the North
The forum demands the rehabilitation and development of the North within the framework of coalition agreements and the next government's plans. Among the demands: investment in infrastructure, education, and health, creating growth engines, and strengthening personal security. "Strengthening the North is a national interest of the first order."
Ahead of the Knesset elections expected in October, the heads of the confrontation line municipalities have acted to place the rehabilitation and development of the North at the center of the next government's agenda. This week, members of the forum that unites them reached out to party leaders and invited them to professional working meetings, during which the municipal heads requested to receive clear commitments regarding the future of the region.
In a letter sent to the party leaders, the forum emphasized that the upcoming election campaign is an opportunity to formulate a long-term policy that will ensure the future, security, and prosperity of the North. The municipal heads asked the candidates to present their perception regarding the region and translate it into commitments that will be embedded in the coalition agreements and the work plans of the next government.
Among the issues they sought to raise in the meetings were the formulation of a long-term national strategy for the rehabilitation and development of the North, the integration of development goals in the fields of infrastructure, education, and health into government plans, as well as the creation of economic growth engines to strengthen community resilience and encourage demographic growth in the region.
Moshe Davidovich, chairman of the Confrontation Line Municipalities Forum and head of the Mateh Asher Regional Council, said:
"The North is the strategic asset of the State of Israel, and strengthening it is not just a local interest, it is a national interest of the first order. Ahead of the elections, we call on all party leaders to arrive for a substantive and in-depth discussion, to ensure that the North receives the place it deserves in the state's priorities."
Davidovich further added: "Our responsibility as municipal heads is to ensure that the residents see a structured work plan, an economic horizon, and personal security for the long term. We invite the candidates to be partners in building a strong future for the North, for the benefit of all citizens of Israel."
In the forum, they emphasized that this is a state-level initiative intended to harness the entire political system to promote the North and ensure that the issue receives expression in the next government's policy.
