MK Almog Cohen joins Likud ahead of 2026 elections
The Knesset member announced his intention to run in the Likud party primaries. This is not the first time he has declared such intentions, but now he is doing so officially and announcing his next political move.
Knesset member Almog Cohen is known as someone who is not accustomed to mincing his words and is not afraid to express firm positions, even if they are controversial. For almost the entire term, he was part of Itamar Ben Gvir's party, Otzma Yehudit, but about a year ago he announced his resignation from the government and his return to the Knesset. The main reason for his resignation was the construction of the airport in Nevatim.
These days, parties are doing everything they can to assemble the lists that will ensure their place in the next Knesset. In some parties, the lists have already been closed after primaries were held, but one of the largest parties, led by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, the Likud, has not yet finalized its list.
Today, Wednesday, Knesset member Cohen announced that he will compete in the Likud party primaries, according to a report by Amit Segal. There had already been hints of this move in the past, and he was even ranked in polls as someone who would take the sixth spot in the party, but now he is doing it officially.
As a reminder, the young politician Hadar Muchtar, who is currently running in the Likud party primaries, received difficult news yesterday: Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu decided not to approve her request to shorten the seniority period required to run in the Likud primaries.
