National Insurance Institute warns debtors: key deadlines for August 17
Mid-month is the deadline for VAT, income tax, and National Insurance reporting. Due to the weekend, deadlines have been adjusted; timely filing is essential to avoid penalties and maintain social benefits.

The obligation to report and pay applies to all self-employed individuals, company owners, and businesses in Israel. This includes authorized dealers required to file periodic VAT reports (monthly or bi-monthly), dealers exempt from VAT who must make advance payments for income tax and National Insurance, and employers required to report deductions for employees and suppliers.
Reports include a breakdown of business income and expenses for the previous period (July or June-July for bi-monthly reporters). Their purpose is to calculate the exact amount of tax and deductions to be transferred to the state treasury.
Beyond legal compliance, timely reporting prevents draconian fines, interest on arrears, and unnecessary enforcement proceedings by the Tax Authority and the National Insurance Institute.
Furthermore, current advance payments are economically vital: they ensure you are not surprised by a large debt when filing your annual report. Regular payments to the National Insurance Institute also preserve your full social rights, including eligibility for maternity leave, reserve duty pay, disability benefits, and emergency compensation.
Legally, the standard reporting date falls on the 15th of the month (VAT and advances) and the 16th (deductions). However, in August 2026, these dates fall on a weekend, triggering an automatic postponement:
August 17 (Monday): The updated official deadline for reporting and physical payment at Tax Authority offices, banks, and post office branches for VAT, income tax advances, deductions, and National Insurance.
August 19 (Wednesday): A special extension for those reporting and paying online. Those using the Tax Authority's internet systems or filing through a representative (accountant or tax advisor) receive a fixed 4-day grace period.
August 24 (Monday): The updated deadline for submitting detailed VAT reports for businesses required to file online.
The most efficient method is to report and pay online via the Tax Authority's personal portal or the National Insurance Institute website. Payment options include credit card, bank transfer, or standing order.
Alternatively, reports may be submitted through a personal representative who transmits data directly to tax systems. For traditional filing, vouchers can be generated and paid at Post Bank branches or commercial banks by the official deadline.
