Actor John Malkovich is coming to Tel Aviv: "Excited to return to Israel"
The veteran film star and passionate supporter of Israel will present his successful satirical show in Tel Aviv. All the details.
In days when many international artists refuse to come to Israel or simply skip it as part of their world tours, here is some happy news: John Malkovich, the Hollywood actor, is coming to Israel with his successful satirical show, "The Music Critic." He will perform on April 13 at the Charles Bronfman Auditorium (Heichal HaTarbut) in Tel Aviv.
The show, which has achieved international success, combines black humor with classical music. It has already been presented on the most prestigious stages in the world, including the Konzerthaus in Vienna and the Beacon Theatre in New York, and has been released as an official musical album.
Malkovich is best known for the films "Places in the Heart" (1984), for which he was nominated for an Oscar, "The Killing Fields" (1984), "Dangerous Liaisons" (1988), and "Being John Malkovich" (1999).
He is identified in the global media as one of the most prominent Hollywood actors with clear pro-Israel positions, and was even defined in the British press as someone who "historically supports Israel." He has signed official petitions in support of Israel's right to defend itself and in condemnation of terrorist organizations. In addition, he is a staunch opponent of the cultural boycott by BDS organizations.
In May 2013, he performed in Israel as the star of the show "The Giacomo Variations" at the Eilat International Chamber Music Festival and at the Tel Aviv Museum of Art. Earlier, in July 2008, Malkovich arrived as the guest of honor at the Jerusalem International Film Festival, where he was awarded a lifetime achievement award.
In this show, based on an original concept by musician Aleksey Igudesman, a fascinating comic confrontation is created on stage: while the critic throws at the audience that Schumann just "imagines he is a composer" and that Brahms is a "talentless scoundrel," the musicians beside him fight back through brilliant live performances of those very same works.
Alongside Malkovich on stage are violinist Aleksey Igudesman, pianist Hyung-ki Joo, and a selection of young classical musicians performing works by Bach, Mozart, Beethoven, Debussy, Prokofiev, and Piazzolla.

Alon Yurik, the show's producer in Israel, adds: "It is moving to see Malkovich's heartfelt response to performing in Israel. I see the producers' approval of their arrival in Israel as another trust-building step in the aspiration for a return to large international shows in Israel."
