Poland pours billions into the military: "We will be the most modern in Europe"
Poland continues its arms race: 96 Apache helicopters, the largest service center of its kind in Europe, and an investment of about 10 billion dollars. Donald Tusk clarifies that the goal is to build the most modern army on the continent — without sparing any expense.
Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk declared that his country is in the midst of building "the most modern army in Europe," and clarified that his government does not intend to spare any defense expenses in light of the security threats facing the nation. The remarks were made during a visit to military aviation plants in the city of Lodz, where new agreements regarding the purchase of American Apache attack helicopters were signed.
"We are truly building the most modern army in Europe, capable of defending our borders. This is priceless and worth all our money and all our efforts," Tusk said.
According to him, these military investments are intended not only to improve Poland's defense capability but also to strengthen the local defense industry and bring advanced technologies to the country.
The event in Lodz took place during the signing of offset agreements between Polish military aviation plants and the American company Boeing. As part of the agreements, a service center for AH-64E Apache helicopters will be established in the city, which, according to the Polish government, will be the largest of its kind in Europe. The center will be able to handle all 96 helicopters ordered from the United States, with a total purchase value estimated at approximately 10 billion dollars.
Tusk emphasized that the project is expected to double the number of employees at the plants in Lodz. "The true essence of these major projects is, first and foremost, the security of Poland, the development of the Polish defense industry, and a major technological leap," he said. He added that the agreement with Boeing also strengthens the defense alliance between Poland and the United States.
Poland ordered the 96 Apache helicopters in 2024. This is one of the largest military procurement deals in the country's history, which will provide the Polish army with the largest fleet of Apache helicopters in Europe. The government in Warsaw is simultaneously seeking to ensure that a significant portion of the maintenance, service, and technological knowledge remains within Poland.
Tusk clarified that the high cost of military buildup does not change the order of priorities. According to him, every zloty, dollar, and euro invested in the army is intended to ensure the future security of the country. "We are not saving when it comes to the Polish army and the Polish defense industry," he said.
