Keren Peles reveals a dark secret: "It was torture for me"
The singer and songwriter is releasing the soundtrack for "One Night in April," her most personal and provocative work, and admits she never believed the materials would see the light of day: "A life journey that was torture for me."
Singer and songwriter Keren Peles is concluding a significant and complex period in her life with the release of the "One Night in April" soundtrack — a work that appears to be her most personal and provocative. In a revealing text she published, Peles admitted that for years she was convinced that these secret songs would never see the light of day and would remain a guarded secret.
According to Peles, the work, which began to be written about a decade ago, has undergone many transformations and upheavals.
"This cabaret is a life journey that was torture for me," Peles shared. "What was born as secret songs that I would never let anyone hear, turned into a home album with poetry slam segments and songs broken from my heart."
The first breakthrough for the project was provided by director Moshe Kepten, who believed in the stage connection and staged the play at the Habima Theatre. Peles noted that over the years, the words and melodies continued to develop and change, until she decided to release the official soundtrack.
Peles emphasized the complexity of the album's birth process, which stemmed, among other things, from the involvement of many partners along the way.
"'One Night in April' is my most significant work, or perhaps I am a product of it," Peles concluded. "Everyone involved is an inseparable part of the separation and my reunion with myself. Thank you to everyone who agreed to be swept away with me into this madness and gave me a key to find my sanity."
