"Economic D-Day": USA launches the largest financial attack in history against Iran
US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent published a special column in the Financial Times tonight, in which he announced the launch of an unprecedented economic campaign against the regime in Tehran. Bessent sent a sharp warning to countries and financial institutions that turn a blind eye and allow the flow of funds to Iran. The message from the Trump administration is clear: severing ties will lead to prosperity, while aiding the regime will lead to total isolation.

US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent announced tonight (between Sunday and Monday) the launch of a new and unprecedented phase in the campaign against Iran. In a special opinion piece published in the Financial Times, Bessent delivered a sharp warning to countries, companies, and financial institutions around the world that continue to assist the regime in Tehran.
According to him, what he defined as an economic "D-Day" is now beginning – the largest financial attack ever conducted against an adversary. He noted that after President Donald Trump and the US military significantly dismantled Iran's military capabilities and weakened its nuclear program, the United States is now entering the final phase.
The core of the Treasury Secretary's warning was directed at those entities that keep the Iranian economy connected to the world. Bessent detailed that Iran's enablers purchase and transport its oil, facilitate the flow of its funds through exchange houses and free trade zones, and manage shipping registries on its behalf. In addition, they turn a blind eye to maritime fuel transfers and the illegal use of their banking systems. Bessent emphasized that any country serving as a financial artery for a dying regime should expect to share in its isolation, and clarified that willful blindness or indirect assistance will lead to total economic ostracism and the transformation of those entities into global pariahs.
He presented countries with a clear choice: those who choose to sever their ties with Tehran will deepen their access to global capital, strengthen confidence in their markets, and achieve a prestigious status in the global economy. Conversely, those who tie their future to Tehran will block themselves from any path to sustained prosperity. According to him, President Trump has created the conditions that allow for the exercise of every authority and measure that the world assumed the United States would never use.
Beyond the economic threat, the Treasury Secretary also addressed the possibility of a security escalation by a regime whose grip on power is crumbling alongside its economy. Bessent warned that if Iran chooses to attack American forces or countries in the Gulf, President Trump will respond quickly and decisively. He concluded his remarks by clarifying that the world must understand that the United States' ultimate goal is to sever every economic lifeline sustaining the tyrannical regime until Tehran is left alone, and questioned whether Iran's enablers are prepared to gamble their future against the wave of American resolve.
