British comedian and Monty Python star John Cleese has been reported to the UK government's Prevent anti-radicalization program over social media posts concerning Islam. A British citizen filed the complaint on September 22, arguing that Cleese's recent posts on X demonstrate a continuous pattern of demonizing Muslims and associating them collectively with violence and criminality.

According to the complainant, posts such as one describing Islam as a "religion of pedophiles" and another criticizing religious practices as barbaric meet the risk indicators used by the Prevent program. The complaint alleges that these online statements could potentially contribute to radicalization and community tensions, rating the perceived risk as medium to high.

Cleese responded to the report cynically on X, writing "How exciting" and calling the situation "excellent comedy material for people with a sense of humor." He rejected accusations of anti-Muslim hatred, defining himself instead as "Islamosceptic" and arguing that religious traditions should be open to satire just as Christianity was in his 1979 film Life of Brian.

Despite the formal report, the British Prevent program operates within a non-criminal space, meaning cases can be closed without further action or referred to voluntary intervention programs. Cleese maintains that criticism of religious cultures is a matter of cultural debate rather than racism.
