A woman in her 70s was struck and killed by a truck this morning on Rashba Street in the Rehavia neighborhood of Jerusalem. Police have opened an investigation into a suspected hit-and-run incident, conducting extensive searches for the fleeing driver.

The report was received at 10:06 a.m. at the Magen David Adom (MDA) 101 emergency dispatch. MDA medical teams summoned to the scene pronounced the woman dead after resuscitation efforts failed.

MDA EMTs Haki Har Kesef and Shlomo Margaliot stated: "This is a difficult incident. The pedestrian was lying on the road unconscious, without a pulse and not breathing. Passersby told us she was struck by a truck. We provided medical treatment that included resuscitation, at the end of which we were unfortunately forced to pronounce her dead at the scene."

Some 340 people have been killed on Israeli roads since the beginning of the year. Last week, 91-year-old Susana Vizinberg was struck and killed by a truck outside Kibbutz Bror Hayil near the Gaza envelope where she lived. A day earlier, a 19-year-old motorcyclist was killed on Route 12 between Eilat and the Sayarim junction after sliding. Hours prior, Samar Rabah, 30, from Deir Hanna, was killed after apparently crashing his car into a horse on Route 65, near the Upper Galilee town of Eilabun.
