Pro-Palestinian Group Files Italian Complaint Against Israeli Tourist
The pro-Palestinian Hind Rajab Foundation filed a complaint in Italy against an Israeli tourist over alleged Gaza military actions, marking the third such move this month.
The Hind Rajab Foundation (HRF), a pro-Palestinian Belgian organization, announced on Monday that it has filed a legal complaint in Italy against J.K., an Israeli tourist vacationing in Tuscany. The organization claims the individual previously served as a soldier in the Shaked Battalion (424) of the Givati Brigade, which operated in the Gaza Strip during the "Swords of Iron" war as part of the 401st Brigade combat team.
The foundation accuses the soldier and his unit of committing war crimes, crimes against humanity, and acts of genocide during combat operations in Gaza, basing its claims on social media content. This marks the third such complaint filed by the HRF in Italy this month, though Italian authorities have shown no indication of opening an investigation, and no restrictions have been placed on the individual.
Prior Complaints Across Europe
Earlier this month, the HRF filed a complaint in Italy against Israeli Minister Idit Silman during her private vacation in the country. Days prior, the foundation targeted Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Sa'ar in Slovenia ahead of his visit to inaugurate the embassy in Ljubljana.
The HRF has also submitted the names of approximately 1,000 Israeli soldiers and officers to the International Criminal Court in The Hague, alleging war crimes. Additional complaints have targeted high-ranking officials and political figures, including Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, former Chief of Staff Herzi Halevi, former military spokesperson Daniel Hagari, former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant, and former Prime Minister Ehud Olmert.
Specific Allegations and Social Media Evidence
According to the organization, the soldier was involved in three specific incidents between October 2023 and August 2024: the siege and destruction of Al-Shifa Hospital in March-April 2024, an incident at the Haj Hamdi Kharazala Mosque in late December 2023, and the destruction of Palestine Square in Gaza City.
The HRF attached photographs allegedly posted by the soldiers to social media, showing troops posing near the referenced sites. The Israel Defense Forces maintain strict operational guidelines regarding operational security and the prohibition of posting imagery from combat zones on social media to prevent such international legal exposures.
"There is no vacation from responsibility—if the evidence follows you from Gaza to Tuscany, justice must follow as well," said Dyab Abou Jahjah, head of the Hind Rajab Foundation.
