Ami Yogev, a 46-year-old Israeli from Modiin, has been missing since Sunday while hiking on Mount Olympus in Greece. Search and rescue operations are currently underway, coordinated by local authorities and Israeli diplomatic missions.
Yogev's mother, Shosh Debi, stated that her son flew to Athens on a spontaneous trip last Tuesday and maintained daily contact with his family. On Sunday afternoon, he informed her that he was planning to climb Mount Olympus, sending pictures during his ascent.
"The contact with Ami was lost on Sunday. At 12:00 PM was the last time he answered," his mother said. "At 4:00 PM I sent him a message. He saw it and no longer replied, and since then there is only one checkmark. The phone is unavailable."
Search Operations and Diplomatic Efforts
Following notification, the Israeli Embassy in Athens and the Department for Israelis Abroad at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs have been in continuous contact with local Greek authorities. A thermal drone company has volunteered to assist in the nighttime search efforts.
The family noted that Yogev traveled without insurance coverage, complicating private search efforts. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed that all relevant data has been transferred to Greek law enforcement agencies and Interpol to expedite the rescue operation.
