Israel's total vehicle mileage reached 69.3 billion kilometers last year, marking a 2.6% increase compared to 2024, according to data released by the Central Bureau of Statistics. Private passenger cars accounted for the vast majority of this traffic, representing 80.5% of the total mileage recorded across the country's roads.

Mileage by Vehicle Ownership and Type

Under current regulations, the state requires licensing centers to record the mileage displayed on vehicle Odometers during annual inspections, providing comprehensive data for statistical analysis. The CBS figures show that the annual mileage for a privately owned passenger car stands at 16.7 thousand kilometers, remaining unchanged from 2024 levels.

In contrast, commercial and fleet vehicles log significantly higher distances. A vehicle owned by a leasing company traveled an average of 22.6 thousand kilometers last year, while company-owned cars averaged 25.3 thousand kilometers annually. Furthermore, electric vehicles demonstrated higher utilization rates compared to traditional combustion engines, with EVs averaging 21.3 thousand kilometers annually, while gasoline-powered cars averaged 18.3 thousand kilometers.

Fleet Trends and Hybrid Taxis

Plug-in hybrid electric vehicles recorded an average annual mileage of 20.3 to 21.3 thousand kilometers, heavily supported by corporate leasing structures tied to localized tax incentives. Data also highlighted a major shift in public transportation, as the number of hybrid taxis surpassed diesel-powered taxis for the first time in 2025, reaching 12.9 thousand hybrid cabs compared to 10.2 thousand diesel vehicles.

The average annual mileage for a commercial taxi operating on Israeli roads last year reached 65.7 thousand kilometers.

Analysis confirms that newer vehicles travel greater distances annually, a trend largely driven by corporate fleets replacing models frequently. Vehicles aged up to three years traveled an average of 16.7 thousand kilometers, whereas cars aged ten to thirteen years logged an average of 12.1 thousand kilometers annually.
