Sources told the Lebanese newspaper Al-Diyar that the upcoming round of talks between Israel and Lebanon scheduled for October 20 appears to be primarily a delaying tactic by the Donald Trump administration.

According to the sources, the US pressured Israel to avoid blowing up the upcoming talks to keep the process alive. Lebanese officials believe Washington is committed to keeping negotiations going despite lacking availability to push them toward practical results.

Meanwhile, the US administration is preoccupied with Iran while Israel is deeply engaged in the race for the Knesset elections on October 27.

Sources noted the US decided to hold military-level talks in Tampa, Florida, to maintain open communication channels without raising political expectations.

Lebanon continues to demand expanded pilot zones for IDF withdrawal and the release of Lebanese prisoners, including Hezbollah operatives. Israel demands that the Lebanese security apparatus take more decisive action to dismantle Hezbollah's weapons.

Israel is currently unprepared to make practical concessions, and its agreement to hold talks remains largely formal, signaling no readiness for substantial progress.
