The Israel Internet Association (ISOC-IL) has sent an urgent appeal to major social networks, messaging apps, search engines, and artificial intelligence services operating in Israel, calling on them to implement preparedness and protection mechanisms for the upcoming 26th Knesset elections. The association urges tech giants to adopt measures similar to those deployed in other democratic countries during national elections.

Protecting the Information Environment

In its appeal, the association noted that while online platforms contribute significantly to community building and public discourse, their immense influence requires them to prevent the malicious exploitation of their services. Increased preparedness is essential to protect Israel's information environment from foreign or domestic interference and to ensure voters can make free and informed decisions.

"In the absence of appropriate regulation in Israel, the protection of election integrity in the online space depends entirely on the goodwill of the platforms," stated ISOC-IL President Sharon Bar Ziv.

Key Demands and Transparency

The association called on digital platforms and AI providers to immediately implement several targeted tools, tailored to each service's characteristics:

  • Establishment of a dedicated local monitoring team to handle election risks and coordinate with authorities.

  • Promotion of authoritative sources and reliable information during the election period.

  • Advertiser verification, political ad transparency, and the labeling of synthetic content.

  • Expansion of trusted reporter programs and commitment to rapid response times.

  • Provision of research data and tools to academic institutions and civil society organizations in Israel.

ISOC-IL CEO Yoram Hacohen emphasized that the measures taken to safeguard election integrity in Israel must be transparent and publicly accountable, requiring a formal public commitment and adequate resource allocation from all major tech companies, including Meta, Google, TikTok, OpenAI, Anthropic, and X-Grok.
