Instagram Tests New Read-Only Profile Browsing Mode to Prevent Accidental Likes
Instagram is testing a new read-only mode that lets users browse profiles without liking, commenting, or accidentally interacting with old posts, potentially for premium subscribers.

Instagram is reportedly testing a new "read-only" mode designed to let users browse profiles without the risk of accidental interactions. According to app researcher Alessandro Paluzzi, the feature will prevent users from liking or commenting on posts while viewing a profile.
The idea aims to eliminate the awkward scenario of accidentally liking an old post from years ago while deep-diving into someone's feed. In addition to disabling likes and comments, the read-only mode will reportedly block sending messages, following the user, or viewing their stories.
While the tool could provide peace of mind for curious scrollers, it also raises questions about whether it might facilitate unwanted stalking behavior. Current indications suggest that the feature may initially be rolled out as an exclusive addition for paying subscribers of the app's premium tier.
