In a bizarre protest in India, villagers in Fatehpur district, Uttar Pradesh, tied a technician to a cellular tower and circled him to express their deep dissatisfaction with poor network services.
A viral video circulating on social media shows the angry villagers binding the telecommunications worker to the structure. The person filming can be heard explaining that residents took this drastic step out of frustration over network issues plaguing the area for two years.
According to police, residents had endured cellular network problems for a long time, and their frustration boiled over when the tower employee arrived in the village. Locals complained that despite having a cellular tower in their village, repeated complaints to the company yielded no results.
As their anger mounted, villagers tied the visiting technician to the tower, declaring he would not be released until company officials visited and fixed the issue. Residents noted they purchased 5G data packages but struggled to access the internet or make calls due to poor coverage. Police eventually arrived and freed the technician.
Bindki police station officer Shailesh Singh stated that preliminary investigations indicate villagers were furious over persistent network failures. A formal complaint has been filed regarding the assault, and authorities are reviewing the viral footage to identify those involved.
