A recent incident in the Gaza Strip illustrates the complex reality facing IDF soldiers following the implementation of the next stage of the 15-point plan. The military identified unusual activity by terrorists who appeared to be preparing to cross the 'yellow line.' Despite raising alert levels and deploying forces to the fence, no retaliatory strike was authorized.
Soldiers present at the scene told Channel 12 News that they requested permission to strike to prevent a surprise attack and maintain deterrence. However, the IDF opted to remain in a defensive posture, stating that there was no specific threat to justify an attack.
"If this is not a threat that is allowed to be attacked, then what is?" an officer on the ground stated. "We wanted to strike, but we were not authorized. We feel our hands are tied in the face of terrorists who are already planning the next massacre."
Earlier today, an Israeli source told N12 that the US is applying heavy pressure on Israel to advance the 15-point plan, though Israel is attempting to block the move. The source noted that following difficult conversations with the American administration, Benjamin Netanyahu eventually imposed an absolute veto on the plan.
However, sources within the Peace Council claim that Israel is effectively carrying out the document's terms while denying it publicly. According to them, targeted liquidations have ceased, the ceasefire is being maintained, and the IDF currently holds control over 53% of the Gaza Strip. This has created an absurd situation where Israel pays the price of compliance without receiving the international credit needed to combat Hamas in the event of violations.
