IDF Introduces New Physical Fitness Standards for Reserve Troops
The IDF has unveiled new physical fitness standards for reservists, including mandatory pre-deployment running, shooting under stress, and tactical marches.

The IDF has introduced new physical fitness standards for reservists, outlined in a document distributed by the Chief Reserve Officer, Brigadier General Benny Ben Ari. Under the new guidelines, reservists must complete pre-deployment training, including basic fitness tests, shooting under physical stress, and a tactical march with full gear.
New Fitness and Training Requirements
The baseline physical requirements for reservists include a 3-kilometer run within 18 minutes for men and 20 minutes for women. Additionally, men must perform 3 pull-ups and 5 parallel bar dips, while women must complete 3 pull-ups and 5 dips using resistance bands. Reservists must also achieve a passing score of at least 70 in shooting under physical stress and complete an 8 to 10-kilometer tactical march with full equipment.
"The goal of these requirements is to build a personalized fitness program to help soldiers improve their performance rather than dismissing those who fail to meet the criteria initially," military sources emphasized.
Pilot Programs and Supervision
Participants will also be required to join an annual 5 km or 10 km run and take part in a dedicated sports and health day. A civilian IDF employee has been appointed to the newly created role of Reserve Array Physical Training Officer to oversee the implementation of these standards.
A preliminary pilot conducted in a reserve brigade yielded positive results, and an additional operational pilot is scheduled. The guidelines are currently in an implementation phase and will eventually become mandatory.
