IDF Holds Deputy Commanders Conference to Address Safety and Readiness
The IDF held its first deputy commanders conference in three and a half years, led by Deputy Chief of Staff Maj. Gen. Tamir Yadai, focusing on safety, operational readiness, and command accountability amid recent accidents.
The Israel Defense Forces recently held its first deputy commanders conference in three and a half years at the City of Training Bases, focusing on safety, operational readiness, and professional standards after a series of operational accidents.
Deputy Chief of Staff Maj. Gen. Tamir Yadai addressed the participants, emphasizing that preserving soldiers' lives is a primary command responsibility and an integral part of operational readiness. Yadai stated that the military must confront failures directly, listen to external criticism, and act immediately to correct professional and safety deficiencies.
The conference served as a military safety halt ordered by the Chief of Staff following recent incidents. Brigade commanders presented severe safety events, core lessons learned, and preventive measures. Discussions also covered core duties of deputy commanders, including leadership, operations, logistics, personnel care, information security, and safety.
A severely wounded soldier shared his personal story regarding a weapons safety violation committed by a peer, illustrating the heavy toll of violating safety protocols. Additionally, commanders were introduced to an integrated military court initiative, a restorative justice program allowing deserters and draft evaders who wish to return to service to clear their criminal records upon successful completion.
Yadai further noted that the military is conducting thorough investigations into the ground maneuver and ongoing combat following over three years of war. He stressed that operational fatigue requires continuous command attention, personnel support, and rigorous adherence to safety and disciplinary standards to ensure the resilience and strength of the armed forces.
