Herzog Awards Indian Pilot Presidential Medal for Civilian Bravery
President Isaac Herzog sent a letter to Indian captain Smith Machhar, thanking him for his bravery and announcing he will receive the Presidential Medal for Civilian Bravery.
President Isaac Herzog sent a letter to Indian captain Smith Machhar, thanking him for his bravery and actions that helped prevent a major disaster. In the letter, delivered to the captain in the hospital, Herzog wished him a speedy recovery and invited him to visit Jerusalem after his rehabilitation.
Herzog also announced that Machhar will receive the Presidential Medal for Civilian Bravery, following the recommendation of the committee that reviewed the award.
"I wish to express appreciation and gratitude to the Indian pilot, Captain Smith Machhar, who fought firmly despite his severe injury, and managed with the remainder of his strength to open the cockpit door," Herzog said during the award ceremony. "From here I send him, on behalf of us all, wishes for a full and rapid recovery."
