Israel Sees Record Fatalities Involving Heavy Vehicles in 2025
Data from Or Yarok shows 2025 was the deadliest decade for heavy vehicle accidents in Israel, with 116 fatal crashes involving trucks and buses, led by Tel Aviv.
In 2025, 116 heavy vehicles, including trucks over 3.5 tons and buses, were involved in fatal road accidents in Israel, resulting in at least one fatality. This represents an 8% increase compared to 2024, when 107 heavy vehicles were involved in similar deadly crashes. According to data from the "Or Yarok" association, based on figures from the Central Bureau of Statistics, 2025 marked the worst and deadliest decade on record for heavy vehicle involvement in fatal road accidents.
Urban Centers and Crash Statistics
Data indicates that roughly 1,300 heavy vehicles are involved in road accidents annually, averaging more than three incidents per day. Close to one hundred heavy vehicles are involved in fatal crashes each year, while 340 are involved in severe accidents.
In 2025, 529 heavy vehicles were involved in accidents on urban roads, accounting for 54% of all heavy vehicle-related crashes that year. Urban areas saw 40 fatal heavy vehicle accidents and 222 severe accidents.
"2025 has proven to be the most dangerous year of the past decade regarding heavy vehicle safety on our roads, demanding immediate action from transportation authorities," noted safety advocates.
City Breakdown for 2025
Tel Aviv-Yafo led the statistics with 87 heavy vehicles involved in accidents during 2025, including seven fatal accidents and 35 severe ones. Over the past decade, 1,157 heavy vehicles were involved in accidents in the city.
Jerusalem followed with 73 heavy vehicles involved in accidents in 2025, of which two were fatal and 43 were severe. Haifa recorded 32 heavy vehicles involved in accidents, including one fatal crash and 12 severe incidents.
